Bimini Flight Info

Please be aware that the information below is offered to assist you in making your flight arrangements to Bimini, and this information is subject to change. The most direct way to Bimini, (airport code BIM), from the US is through the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, (airport code FLL), in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida . There are several commercial airlines from Florida to Bimini, each with their own schedule.

Our trips start at noon on the first day and ends after breakfast on the last day. Most of the carriers that fly into Bimini have morning flights, departing Ft. Lauderdale around 10 am.

Unless you fly all the way from your home airport to Bimini on Continental, you typically have to book your flights to Florida and to Bimini separately. We suggest flying into Ft. Lauderdale the evening before the trip start, book a hotel for the night, then catch a morning flight to Bimini.

Some people have arranged to fly into Ft. Lauderdale on a redeye flight, skipping a night in Ft. Lauderdale, and arriving in time to catch the morning flight to Bimini.

Our trip ends on the last day after breakfast. You can schedule your return flight from Bimini to Florida anytime after that. If your Bimini flight leaves the island around 11 am, (as most of them do), I would schedule your return flight out of Ft. Lauderdale airport at 3 pm at the earliest, to leave time for clearing customs, etc. Clearing US Customs usually only takes 10 minutes, unless you get behind a big jet from overseas. Upon clearing customs, you claim your luggage, go thru immigrations, then move to another terminal and go thru security again. I recommend giving yourself at least three hours between the arrival of the Bimini flight into Ft. Lauderdale, and the departure of your return flight from Ft. Lauderdale to home.

Continental, 1-800-523-3273, 800-231-0856, has daily flights from FLL to Bimini that average from $270 – $325 round trip. Their flights typically leave Ft. Lauderdale at 10 am, arriving in Bimini at 10:30 am. If you want to book your Bimini flight with Continental, you need to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale the night before. (Below is hotel info for Ft. Lauderdale). Continental is one of the simplest, most reliable carriers to book your Bimini flight with.

Pioneer Air Services flies daily to Bimini, their number is (561) 210-4345. Their round trip tickets average $255 per person. Pioneer flies out of Executive Airport, which is a $45+ dollar cab ride north of the Ft. Lauderdale airport. I have flown with Pioneer many times. If you fly with Pioneer, you need to factor in the travel time between airports for your arrival and departure.

IBC Travel is a popular airline and flies several days a week to Bimini from Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. Their r/trip flight is currently $289 and their number is 954-834-1700.

Charter Planes: There are also a number of charter planes you can arrange to get flights with. I’ve always enjoyed flying with Tropic Air Charters . There are more choices below, and I recommend the three above.

Hotels -  If your travel plans include a night in Ft. Lauderdale, there’s an infinite variety of hotels to choose from, based on convenience, budget and location. Some have a shuttle to the airport. You can also get a hotel on the beach, or the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel. I’ve recommended a number of hotels over the years, and find that they keep changing prices and specials. The Sleep Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport, 800-346-8357, has rooms for $70 a night and includes a shuttle. www.hotels.com and www.travelocity.com are two simple ways to find what you’re looking for.

Travel Insurance and Trip Cancellation Insurance is always recommended. It is a personal choice. You can buy insurance to cover your trip and travel expenses in case of a change in plans.

I’m so excited you’re joining us! We’re in for an awesome adventure. We’ll see you in the Bahamas!

The Peters family at the South Bimini Airport. They've just arrived from snowy Toronto for a family dolphin trip and they are excited!
